Bright, young tycoon of high finance travels for NYC in his white Limousine , while the streets are overrun by angry protests against the prevailing economic crisis and by the state of agitation that accompanies the visit of a Head of State. The young man, determined not to give up his weekly haircut, however, crosses the city on the luxury car to go to the barber. During the trip, he host inside the car young hackers, finance experts, doctors and surf lovers, taking knowledge of his financial collapse. Arrived in the suburbs he find himself in front of his assassin, a former employee, moved by ancient hatreds, which illuminate him on the fall of his financial empire, happened for a banal cause, not considered. Pessimistic view of the contemporary world, the fall of capitalism is well described, either by the physical and economic decay of the protagonist or the heated disputes that invading the city. Film extremely spoken, sometimes disturbing and incomprehensible, almost obsessively reproduces the text of Delillo’s book, that inspired it. Great the idea of the “road movie” and amazing the acting of the main characters, especially Paul Giamatti.
Giovane e brillante manager dell’alta finanza viaggia per NYC nella sua Limousine bianca, mentre le strade sono invase da rabbiose proteste contro la crisi economica imperante e dallo stato di agitazione che accompagna la visita di un Capo di Stato. Il giovane, deciso a non rinunciare al suo settimanale taglio dei capelli, attraversa comunque la città sulla lussuosa macchina per andare dal barbiere. Durante il viaggio fa salire in macchina giovani hacker, esperti di finanza, medici e amanti navigate e prende conoscenza del suo tracollo finanziario. Giunto nei sobborghi si trova di fronte al suo attentatore: un ex dipendente, mosso da antichi rancori, che lo illumina sulla caduta del suo impero finanziario, avvenuta per una causa banale, non considerata. Pessimistica visione del mondo contemporaneo, la caduta del capitalismo è perfettamente descritta nel decadimento sia fisico che economico del protagonista e dalle accese contestazioni che invadono la città. Film estremamente parlato, a tratti inquietante e incomprensibile, riproduce in modo quasi ossessivo il testo di Delillo da cui è tratto. Bella l’idea del “Road movie” e grande prova di recitazione da parte dei protagonisti, in particolare Paul Giamatti.
